About the Group Study Exchange Program

The Group Study Exchange (GSE) program is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for young business and professional men and women ages 25 to 40 in their initial years of professional life. Teams spend four to six weeks abroad participating in vocational activities in their respective fields, being immersed in cultural experiences, enjoying fellowship with host families and members of the community, and working with the host districts Rotarians at club meetings and various Rotary activities. The ideal team member candidate is someone who is a team player, outgoing, social, has a sense of responsibility, good ambassador, good communicator, loves their profession and is respectful.

Expenses. The Rotary Foundation pays the least-expensive commercial round-trip transportation between districts and up to US$1,000 for language training (self-study or at an eligible educational institution). Additional subsidies include:

1.      The host district provides the visiting teams meals, accommodations, and transportation during the study program.

2.      Team members pay for personal and incidental expenses; visa, passport, inoculation expenses, travel to / from airport and airport taxes; insurance coverage; and the cost of any additional travel after the study tour.

About the Exchange Visit and the Team

District 5300 Team Leader

Adrienne Cox is a 15-year Rotarian, having joined as a result of her experiences with the Rotary Club of Las Vegas Southwest when fund raising to renovate a shelter for abused and neglected children.  Rotarians volunteered their money, time and contacts, assuring a successful campaign.  Along the way, they were kind, thoughtful, helpful and, of course, generous.  How could one decline the invitation to join with this group!

Adrienne is Past President of her Rotary Club, and has served in a leadership role in her Club and in District 5300 since 2001.  She has gone on several Rotary International humanitarian trips, most memorably to India for Polio National Immunization Day, during which she also helped build a computer school and day care center in a rural Muslim village.  Other trips included the construction of water cisterns in the Yucatan of Southern Mexico, and staffing a medical clinic in rural Central Mexico.  She is a four-time Paul Harris Fellow.

The daily opportunities that Rotary provides to offer service above self abound in Las Vegas.  Working with the homeless, “at risk” children, developmentally delayed people and others provides satisfaction and balance to Adrienne’s business and family life.

Adrienne is retired from public service, having worked in and administered both juvenile justice and child welfare services for the greater Las Vegas community.  She began her career as a Juvenile Probation Officer, and has worked in many capacities with families and children.  She spent a career working with families in crisis, providing safety and stability for children, rehabilitative services for juveniles, and protection for the community from the crimes of  delinquents.

After retiring in 2004, she opened her own business, Adrienne Cox Consulting, LLC.  She provides services in community engagement, project development and management, and conflict resolution to government, business and non-profit entities.

Adrienne was born in Los Angeles, California, and relocated to Las Vegas before graduating high school.  Her undergraduate degree is from University of Nevada Las Vegas, and she earned her Masters degree in Public Administration from University of Southern California.

Adrienne is active in the Las Vegas community in many leadership and support capacities, including serving on the boards of UNLV, HomeAid, Silver Sky Assisted Living, City of Henderson and Southern Nevada Regional Planning Commission Committee on Homelessness.  She volunteers with the Three Square food bank and is a volunteer mediator with the Neighborhood Justice Center, among other community service activities.

Adrienne is married to Elliot Cohen, a retired pharmacist, and enjoys a wonderful relationship with three great step kids.  She divides her time between homes in Henderson, Nevada, and Prescott, Arizona.

Members of the Outgoing 2010 Team

Clarissa Cassandra
Monrovia

As a child of true entrepreneurs, Clarissa has spent her life with her hard working and encouraging family.  After graduating from California State University, Fullerton she ventured out in the world to work in media and print publications and found those were not her passion.  Finally after a few years, she realized that cooking, fitness, traveling, and helping others were all apart of her life scheme.  For the past five years, she has worked in helping people as an insurance agent for Nancy Bond Insurance Services with non and for profit businesses.  While doing so, she has accomplished combining her love of fitness and volunteering by being a committee chair for the Mt. Wilson Trail Race, which benefits the Volunteer Search and Rescue Department in Sierra Madre.  In the future, she hopes to learn cultural cooking while traveling from one country to the next.

Jacqueline Maples
Apple Valley

Jacque grew in a very stable and loving home. With family vacations every summer, she developed a love and passion for traveling. In 2007 she graduated from California State University San Bernardino with a Degree in Business Management and Marketing. With desire to learn more she continued on and in 2009 she finished her Master’s from Chapman University in Organizational Leadership. This strong educational background has made way for a position at St. Mary Medical Center as Organizational Development Specialist in the Department of Leadership and Development. Where she has been instrumental in improving the educational opportunities for the leadership group and the community, including the development of St. Mary’s Corporate University. After spending most of her life in Apple Valley, Jacque is very eager to expand and pursue travels outside the United States.

Brought up in a family who traveled every summer, Jacque continues to carry that passion for travel. After spending most of her life in Apple Valley, Jacque is very eager to learn more and expand her travel outside the United States. A graduate of Chapman University with a Master’s in Organizational Leadership, Jacque is the Organizational Development Specialist at St. Mary Medical Center.

Joseph Lawrence
Alhambra

Joseph was born in December of 1983, and grew up in Palmdale California. The son of a Los Angeles County Sheriffs deputy and Superior Court Administrator Joseph knew at a young age he wanted to follow his parent’s footsteps in a career in public service. In 2007 Joseph was hired as a Firefighter / Paramedic with the City of Alhambra Fire department. In 2005 Joseph had the opportunity to be part of an Emergency Relief Team deployed to New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.

Joseph has always been an active member of his community, having volunteered with organizations as Habitat for Humanity, American Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, and Toys for Tots.

Currently Joseph lives in Upland California. In his spare time Joseph enjoys outdoor activities such as Mountain biking, fishing, and camping. As football being his main passion, in the future, it is Joseph’s hopes to get into coaching.
